Surreal Ball Costume

Description

In 2003 The Society of the Arts of the Imagination threw an art show entitles "Brave Destiny". It was billed as "the world's largest show of living artists working today in Surrealism". It was to show several Dali works, be attended by Ernst Fuchs and H.R. Giger and was billed as the greatest modern surrealist show there was. After the show opening, a Surrealist Ball with full costume was to be held.
I chose this occasion to show the world that not only did a true surrealist still exist, but that I would and could outdo all or most of those who called themselves surrealists.
To make a long story short, there were no Dali's, Fuchs and Giger never showed up, the hosts were outragously rude and the show was FULL of unicorn and fairy paintings from members from the Society. I will admit there were some great surreal works there including those by friends Kris Kuksi and Andrew Gonzalez, but I was still very proud of the costume I made for the event. Based on Dali's painting "The Ship", I built an aluminum frame which I covered with foam to mimic a huge second backbone which carried ribs that in turn were the mast and cross members for sails for the costume....suspended from invisible fish line were many silvery fishes and replicas of human teeth.
A taste of Surealism at its best

If anyone is interested they can find a very short snip or two of me in the costume in the Brave Destiny footage on Youtube...here;

Hope you enjoy it
